After the recent renovation of the visitor centre, the opening of Bistro Lieteberg marks the next step in the transformation into the Lieteberg Biodiversity Experience Center. Bistro Lieteberg is a self-service bistro operated by 'Arbeidskansen vzw', an organisation that guides, supports and motivates people with a distance to the labour market to work, learn and grow.
The new bistro's menu features Belgian classics such as videe, stew and meatballs in tomato sauce. Of course with a number of local Limburg products as well as Lieteberg's own specialities: sweet mead and refreshing honey beer. Vegetarians have also been thought of. They can choose from veggie balls, noodles or a poké bowl. Eating a sandwich or a piece of Limburg flan is also possible. The aim is to offer six to seven employees with a distance to the labour market a valuable job at the bistro, with support from two supervisors.
The concept? Serve yourself and eat well. Cosy inside our bistro, which can seat up to 80 people. Or outside on the spacious cosy grass terrace, if it's a nice day. You get your meal and drinks at the self-service counter and pay immediately. Finished? Then clear your table yourself and put empty bottles in the bins. Thanks in advance!
‘We are extremely happy to be able to offer our visitors not only Limburg flan, but also sandwiches and even a hot meal 7 days a week. We are gradually growing into a true experience centre with an all-weather offering where young and old can enjoy themselves from morning till night. The fact that in this way we can also give opportunities to people who have difficulty finding a place on the labour market completes the picture’, says Sofie Wyns, director of the Visitor centre Lieteberg.
Opening campaign
During the opening weekend on 3, 4 and 5 January, children up to 12 years eat for free at Bistro Lieteberg, if the adults accompanying them also order and pay for a meal. Drinks are also payable. So a unique opportunity to come and meet the bistro and its staff!
Opening hours
Bistro Lieteberg is open every day from 10am to 4pm. From 1 March until 5pm, from 30 March until 6pm. The bistro follows the opening hours of Visitor centre Lieteberg.
