15 Mar Our red walk (10 km) through forest, stream valleys and heathland was awarded ‘Leading Quality Trail - Best of Europe, Day Walk’.
The red walk (10 km) from Lieteberg was awarded the European quality label ‘Leading Quality Trails - Best of Europe, Day Walk’ in early March. And that's really special! Because together with 9 other Top Trails in the Hoge Kempen National Park, these are the only hiking trails in Belgium and the Netherlands that meet the criteria for this recognition.
This hike takes you through a beautiful variety of landscapes with woodlands, stream valleys and heathlands. You might also spot the rare juniper. Walk along Hesselsberg where you can admire, among other things, the majestic 6-metre-high statue of Mary. Take the new plank path towards the recreation area Papendaalheide. Here you can relax by the lakes of the former gravel pit. From a floating wooden platform over the water you can enjoy a picnic with a view! Or continue walking via the village centre back to Visitor Centre Lieteberg and relax with something tasty on the cosy terrace at Bistro Lieteberg.
Not to be missed!
